We are pleased to inform you about the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Bursary South Africa Incorporated Bursary South Africa 2023.

ABOUT THE COMPANY – DRDLR

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR), established in 2009, is a department of the South African government. The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform is responsible for the department. The DRDLR is responsible for land reform; deeds registration; cadastral surveying and topographic mapping.

The Department’s mission is to initiate, as well as facilitate, coordinate and implement rural development programs.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The DRDLR will be awarding bursaries for studies within the agriculture, land reform and rural development sector, specifically for the following qualifications:

Undergraduate Studies:

  • Animal Science (BSc)
  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)
  • Bioresource Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) (BSc)
  • Entomology (BSc)
  • Food Science (BSc)
  • Food Technology (National Diploma)
  • Geo-Informatics/ Geographic Information Science (BSc/ BA)
  • Land Surveying/ Geomatics (BSc)
  • Plant Pathology (BSc)
  • Surveying/ Cartography (National Diploma/ B Degree)
  • Town/ Urban and Regional Planning (BSc)
  • Town and Regional Planning (National Diploma/ BBE)
  • Viticulture and Oenology (BSc)

Postgraduate Studies: Agricultural, land reform and rural development fields of study relating to DALRRD priority research projects (BTech, BSc, Hons, MTech, MSc, DTech, Ph.D.)

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – SERVICE CONTRACT & SELECTION

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, books, accommodation, meals and a monthly allowance.

Postgraduate students will be allocated a mentor and receive a monthly allowance for accommodation and meals. They will also be appointed as interns and placed with the relevant industry/ research institution/s of higher learning as young professionals.

Successful applicants will be contacted – if you do not receive any feedback by 10 March 2021 at the latest, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Undergraduate students:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying or intend on studying at a recognized South African tertiary institution
  • Bioresource Engineering & Bachelor of Veterinary Science students: must have achieved a minimum of level 6 (70–79%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
  • Animal Science & Entomology & Food Science & Plant Pathology & Viticulture and Oenology students: must have achieved a minimum of level 5 (60–69%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
  • Land Surveying/ Geomatics & Geo-Informatics/ Geographic Information Science Town/ Urban and Regional Planning students: must have achieved a minimum of level 4 (50–59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
  • Food Technology & Surveying/ Cartography & Town and Regional Planning students: must have achieved a minimum of level 4 (50–59%) for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric National Senior Certificate
  • Previously disadvantaged or impoverished
  • From a poverty-stricken or rural community
  • People with disabilities are encouraged to apply
  • NOT a staff member of the department

Postgraduate students:

  • South African citizen

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
Undergraduate students:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Full academic record (certified copy)
  • Qualification/ certificates (certified copies)
  • University acceptance letter (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Parents/ Guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/ Guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, proof of unemployment from Department of Labour if unemployed, SASSA confirmation letter if applicable, death certificates if applicable)

(*Please note: if you have not yet received your Matric final results or University acceptance letter, you may apply without it and submit the outstanding documents as soon as received).

Postgraduate students:
